Brogan Powell's try settled a tense Carnegie Champion Schools Girls'
Year Eight Final at RAF Uxbridge.
Powell struck after 15 minutes by forcing her way over in the corner
direct from the play-the-ball.
It proved to be the only score of a final dominated by superb defence
and commitment between two highly-skilled teams.
Cardinal Newman had been in control during the early stages but some
last-gasp tackling had kept the Castleford line intact.
Castleford's Abby Norton then made a searing break to give her side
the field position from which Powell crossed.
Neither side could find a way through during the second half as
Castleford clung on for the win. Abby Norton was awarded the Lisa
McIntosh medal as player of the match.
