Airedale prop Jack Smith crashed over in the final minutes to clinch a
deserved and hard-fought victory against their local rivals Castleford
High.
Airedale had established a 20-0 half time advantage only for tries
from Luke Hobson and captain Danny Smith to bring Castleford back into
contention.
But tireless second-row Jack Lee made a 90-metre burst to relieve the
pressure on the Airedale line and two tackles later Jack Smith was on
hand to take advantage of Castleford's broken line and storm under the
posts.
Scott Rudd had crossed twice in the first 15 minutes to give Airedale
the perfect start, alongside scores from Jack Lee and Dale Evans.
Those four tries proved crucial as Airedale were forced to withstand a
committed comeback from Castleford before Smith's effort proved
decisive. Jack Lee was awarded the man-of-the-match medal.
