INTRODUCTION TO KEY STAGE 3 ENGLISH
The study of English in Years 7, 8 and 9 follows the National Framework and the National Curriculum orders for English. In years 7 & 8, work is divided into a number of units, which ensure coverage of the framework objectives for English. Each of the units has a different focus such as the media, Shakespeare or travel writing. Pupils will learn how to write in a variety of styles. They will also read a range of texts from fairy tales to pre-1914 poetry. At the end of Year 8 pupils begin preparing for SATs with an introduction to the SATs Shakespeare text.
In Year 9 pupils work on units which are specifically designed to prepare them for their SATs. They study one Shakespeare play and finely tune their reading and writing skills in preparation for their exams. Following the SATs all Year 9 students begin their GCSE coursework.
