What is GCSE Art and Design about?
- Being creative and imaginative
- Developing practical skills for communicating and expressing ideas, feelings and meaning in art, craft and design
- Investigating and experimenting with materials in 2D and 3D
- Modifying, refining and evaluating work
- Gaining knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design of different times and cultures
How is my work marked?
Your work will be marked using the following Assessment Objectives (AO’s):
A01. Record observations, experiences and ideas in forms that are appropriate to intentions
A02. Analyse and evaluate images, objects and artefacts showing understanding of contexts
AO3. Develop and explore ideas using media, processes and resources, reviewing, modifying and refining work as it progresses
AO4. Present a personal response, realising intentions and making informed connections with the work of others
What is the course structure?
COURSEWORK = 60% OF THE FINAL MARK
- Two, three or four units of coursework
- A coursework unit should include preparatory work, sketchbooks, log books or journals related to the final piece(s) in the chosen area(s) of study
- Centre - assessed and moderated by AQA
10 HOUR CONTROLLED TEST= 40% OF THE FINAL MARK
- Candidates will be required to respond to one starting point from seven questions given by the exam board
- A response to all assessment objectives is required
- There will be a preparatory period of four weeks, followed by 10 hours of supervised time ( final exam))
- Candidates will be expected to develop their own work to resolve investigations, producing a final piece or pieces based upon preparatory studies and research
