GCSE MODERATION
RUGBY LEAGUE
- GROUP WARM UP –
- full pitch, stretch in each corner
- PASSING ALONG A LINE OF 4.
- In groups of 4, set up diagonally away from the first man, at the top end move round the top cone so again in diagonal line.
- Burger ball – ball along line and back again
- Backside ball – 1st man to 3rd missing out 2nd and continue along the line (only 1 way)
- Face ball – 1st to 3rd then back inside to the 2nd man, who then continues to pass the ball along the line
- Drop off – 1st to 2nd to 3rd, then 4th man runs inside for a drop off pass from the 3rd man.
- 2 v 1
- In pairs approach tackle bag, step onto outside foot to draw the tackler shield, then pass the ball to partner who will be in space. 2 tackle shields will be set up, one behind the other.
- TACKLING FRONT ON
- In pairs 1 stood on the 10meter line and 1 stood on the 20meter line. 1 side approaches by jogging to the other side, who then tackles their partner using the passive technique. They 3-5 attempts each then swap over.
- Progress this onto running at their partner
- TACKILING SIDE ON
- Stood in 2 lines, 1 who tackles and 1 who runs straight towards opposite cone. After they have completed their tackle or run they swap cones and jobs.
- BEATING AN OPPONENT
- In a 10x10 grid, in pairs, the aim is for the ball carrier to beat the defender and score a try. 2 lines stood opposite each other 1 with balls, 1 without, then swap over after their go.
- KICKING
- In pairs stood 1 on the 10meter line and 1 on the 20meter line.
- The punt kick – kick for height but not at the cost of accuracy. ACCURACY is KEY
- Grubber kick – both players stood on the 20meter line. 1 grubber kicks the ball through while partner runs after and scores the try
- Chip kick – 1 player on the 10meter (defender) and 1 player on the 20 (attacker). Defender – stationary to start – jumping – competing
