Castleford High School budding journalists got to meet the stars and crew of ITV’s Calendar News on Thursday 11th of October. As part of an Aim Higher and Media Department trip, 12 pupils interested in a career in journalism or in taking Media Studies at A Level were invited to Yorkshire TV studios at Kirkstall Road, Leeds to witness the live broadcast of Thursday night’s local news.
They were given a tour of the studios, shown 50 years of ITV programming before sitting in “the gallery” with the director and producer during a live broadcast. Afterwards they sat and chatted with presenters Duncan and Christine as well as asked weatherman Jon Mitchell detailed questions about the different routes to a career in the Media.
As part of the scheme, pupils will be writing an article for the Yorkshire Evening Post and attending a full days workshop at their offices. Pupils will write an article each at a workshop with Mr Prinsep before having their work edited and critiqued by experienced editors and writers and the Post.
