Independent Learning in History

8A1 is currently 8 lessons into a 25 hour Independent Learning Pilot. The Pupils were randomly placed into groups of 4 or 5 and given a topic ‘Tudors and Stuarts’. From this the pupils have to organise their own learning including creating their own ‘big question’, setting their own deadlines, solving any problems that arise from working in groups and hopefully taking individual responsibility and learning how to reflect on their work. At the end of the 25 hours the pupils will have to give a 5 minute presentation to Mr Vaughan (Headteacher) and Mr Teer (Assistant headteacher); create either a 5 minute video or a 5 minute powerpoint presentation; and some form of publication, for example a magazine or a poster.

So far some very creative pieces have developed ranging from a puppet theatre to a treasure chest as well as requests for costumes, sequins and cotton wool! I can’t wait to see the finished products!
