Reading Mentors

Year Nine pupils have undertaken  training to enable them to become reading mentors for the 2007 intake.

Aims and objectives of the group

To raise the confidence of pupils when reading

To develop reading skills

To enable pupils to access the curriculum

To establish links with pyramid schools in Sept 2007

22 Pupils have participated in a training scheme which has enabled them to develop their own mentoring skills and help lower school pupils to raise their reading levels. The Year 9 pupils have already completed an intensive training day during which they were given the opportunity to think about how they could assist lower school pupils to develop their skills as readers, become good mentors and they were even  encouraged to write and perform their own jingle!

The reading mentors are currently working with 22 pupils in year seven and will work with pupils from the new intake. They will also be working with the pyramid schools to help younger pupils develop their reading skills.

If you feel your child would benefit from reading mentoring, please contact Miss Longley on the school’s telephone number.
