The School Nursing team is a group of nurses and health care workers employed by the NHS to support all school age children. We work with a broader team of professionals from both health and education. The aim is to work in partnership with children and their carers to enable each child to reach their full potential.
Every school has a named nurse and doctor trained in how health problems may affect your child. Our named Nurse is SARAH UPTON and she works with a Doctor who is trained in how health problems may affect a child's ability to learn. The School Nurse can refer to other NHS services making easier access to health care.
The School Nurse areas of responsibility are:
- Participation in health education and health promotion.
- Promotion of well being and health
- Assessing the needs of school communities.
- Health and advice drop in clinics in High School (Currently Wednesdays)

- Enuretic (bed wetting) support and advice
- Encoporesis (soiling) support and advice

The staff at Castleford High School fully understand and support the need for partnership working and therefore, together with the NHS, have set up a new project called the 'school based health service' for the pupils. The area set aside by the school includes 'First Aid' support, Connexions Advisor (for advice and support) and also a counseling/safe room for consultants.
Sarah Upton is available for support and advice for parents and carers and their children via the school or at the Castleford, Normanton and District hospital, Lumley Street Hightown. Telephone 01977 605546
