December 7th 2007 saw the superbly talented staff at Castleford High perform as their favorite artists for one night only. The atmosphere backstage was electric with all the staff members nervous about performing in front of a packed house of 250 per show.
Opening the show with a rousing rendition of Pink's leave me alone I'm lonely, Miss Ramsay set the mood for a fantastic evening of entertainment. Miss Garbet and Mr Fletcher hosted the proceedings with some interesting props and some excellent sketches along the way.
Mr and Mrs smith were fantastic as Sonny and Cher and even managed to swap genders for the evening with Mr Smith providing an extremely tall Cher for the act!! The kitchen staff were extremely impressive as the choir from Sister Act and gave a great sing along performance of I will follow him from the film.
The audience were dancing in their seats to the English department and YMCA and very fetching they all looked too! Mr Surtees had them dancing in the aisles with his rendition of Take your mama out by the Scissor sisters flanked by some very interesting looking trousers!!
hold on to your kilt! the proclaimers walked 500 miles with Mr Edwards providing a real charismatic performance of their big hit to finish the first half.
Grease was the word after superman dropped in for the second half. Mr Holmes was so hot he took his shirt off when the PE department performed with real energy with acrobatics and some great dancing.
Girls Aloud would have been proud of the English and PE departments combined efforts on their first hit Sound of the Underground and again the singing and dancing were top class!
The Support Assistants of the school then took the helm as the Pussycat dolls and were fantastic performing Don't cha swiftly followed a heart renching rendition of Bang Bang by Mrs lyons taking on Nancy Sinatras classic hit. Mrs Bird and Mr Vessay in an outstanding costume as Elton John and Kiki Dee tell us not to break their hearts. Closing the show were Mr Humfreys and Mr Jones singing Oasis' Acquiesce a real stomper of a song!
All the staff then returned to the stage to finish off with Let me Entertain you by Robbie williams whilst the judges decided.
The first show was won by the PE department and the second by Mrs Lyons and both were well deserved.
Many thanks to Sam Harrison who kindly provided the photography for the evening.
