Year 10 Girls Carnegie Champions Schools National Cup Final 2008

Year 10 Girls

Castleford High School 20 St John Fisher High School 4

Still more glory for Castleford High School. This time it came they picked up the Year Ten Girls title beating a brave effort from Wigan’s St John Fisher.

Castleford’s defence dominated the game and that steely quality created the platform for their victory.  Although St John Fisher never let up in their efforts, they created very few scoring chances and managed to turn just one of them into points.

In the opening exchanges both teams demonstrated a gritty determination but the deadlock was broken by the player-of-the-game Castleford’s Kelsey Morgan. She crossed the St John Fisher line twice for tries to give her side an 8-0 lead at the interval.

St John Fisher had failed to clear their lines and Morgan made them pay by diving over still under pressure from several defenders. In the last few minutes of the first half she evaded the St John Fisher defenders yet again and went in for her second touch down.

Anna Leyland ensued that the Wigan team would not finish the match scoreless when she scored a try in the second half but Castleford put the game was far beyond St John Fisher’s reach by adding further tries through Danielle Penny, Amy Shepherd and Hannah Thorpe.
