Year 8 Boys

Castleford High School 10 Freeston B&E College 18:

The power of Freeston loose forward Brad England prove to be the difference between these two well-drilled and skilled teams.

When ever he had the ball the Castleford defence was in trouble and his try late in the second half proved to be the decisive factor.

Castleford started the game at pace and they soon had something to show for their efforts. Centre Luke Metcalfe located a gap on the right hand side of the Freeston defence and went in for a try.

They added to their total when their other centre Chris Oakley caught the Freeston defence bunched in the middle of the field yet and powered in on the right hand side for their second try which was converted by Jack Miller.

But Freeston persisted and their graft brought its reward when a kick downfield exposed the Castleford defence. The ball was not properly gathered by their rearguard and Freeston left wing Danny McGowan picked up the ball to score. Ryan Hampshire kicked the goal.

Freeston pulled level when loose forward England powered over from close for an unconverted try to level the scores 10-10 at halftime.

In the second half the Freeston defence proved to be far more organised while their attack found its teeth to produce unconverted tries by Hampshire and England.
